Don't Miss the Point
Indian Point is one of Branson’s most interesting destinations, with jewels both past and present.
Indian Point is a history-rich spit of land on Table Rock Lake. It has hosted Osage Indians and the Confederate brigade of General Stan Watie; it is home to the granddaddy of Table Rock resorts and the mother of all Branson attractions, Silver Dollar City.
Located just west of Branson off of Highway 76/265, the newly widened Indian Point Road tempts you first with the roller coasters of Silver Dollar City and later with the unique restaurants, quirky resorts, and array of boat docks. And of course there’s the sparkle of Table Rock Lake itself. The point is, it doesn’t matter where you stop, it’ll be a good decision.
Arno Wehr Jr. is one of multiple generations of Wehrs to live in the village of Indian Point. Today his son, Arno III, heads up the Indian Point Chamber of Commerce, one of the oldest such organizations in a Tri-Lakes area now bursting with them. Wehr Jr. is something of an area historian, and on a dime can rattle off a lengthy history of the Point, including Civil War skirmishes, the location of the old ferry or post office and the story of Jan the Diver.
Long a sleepy hamlet, Indian Point was ready when Table Rock Lake was created and tourism arrived in the 1960s. Rock Lane Resort’s public marina was the first of its kind in the area, Wehr says.
Others resorts followed, but Indian Point managed to keep its mom-and-pop charm. There are places to eat, shop and stay, including campsites and condos under construction. Wehr also says the Point is sitting on a grant for outdoor trails, with which they hope to start clearing soon to promote an even more outdoorsy mission.
