Popular Southeast Asian travel recommendations – The city-state of Singapore is located at the tip of peninsula Malaysia, a short ferry ride from Indonesia. While Singapore may be filled with lots of things to see, do, buy and eat, sometimes you need to get away. There are a wide variety of holiday destinations near Singapore or at least within a few hours by car, bus or plane. Families might want to consider a self-catering resort destination like Sentosa Island, while couples might consider an island getaway to a place like Bintan.

Plan your trip with our list of the best weekend getaways from Singapore.

Sentosa Island, Singapore

One of the resort’s closest beaches to Singapore is just a monorail ride (or cable car or Uber). Sentosa Island has several beach resorts, as well as family hotels and luxury vacation spots. This is a great family destination and home to the Universal Studios Singapore theme park, as well as several other theme parks and water parks. There are some great beaches and lots of things to do, including bungee jumping and indoor skydiving.

There’s also plenty of high-end shopping and a variety of tantalizing dining options, including family dining, fine dining and restaurants from some of the world’s top celebrity chefs.

Iskander Puteri, Malaysia

This Malaysian city, formerly known as Nusajaya, is the perfect place for a quick family getaway from Singapore. Just across the causeway, and you can get here in about 20 minutes. The area’s main attractions for family travelers are the two giant theme parks: Legoland Malaysia and the Hello Kitty Indoor Theme Park.

This area is also home to the only premium outlet mall in Asia. It has outlets from many popular luxury brands selling discount merchandise. When you tire of amusement park food, head to Puteri Harbour, where you’ll find more than a few excellent restaurants, some serving freshly caught seafood.

Penang, Malaysia

This region of Malaysia, the old city of Penang and its capital George Town, is renowned for its great street food culture and history. This is an excellent place for shopping, with luxury malls and street vendors. Take the cable car up to Bukit Penang for stunning views of the city and sea.

For more fresh air, head to Penang National Park to see the amazing mix of rainforest and beach ecosystems. Instagram users will be happy to capture the many murals of city streets.

It takes less than 90 minutes to fly to Penang from Singapore Changi Airport (or about six hours if you take the bus).

Hoi An, Vietnam

This Vietnamese city is about three hours from Singapore by plane (most people fly to nearby Danang). It has the perfect mix of a well-preserved French colonial old town, plenty of lush countryside (best explored by bicycle), and some very beautiful beaches. It also has great Vietnamese cuisine and is a chance to experience other Southeast Asian cultures on a short getaway from Singapore.

Halong Bay is another beautiful place to visit in Vietnam, a little further from Hoi An in three and a half hours by plane from Singapore Changi Airport. It’s also ideal for weekend trips.

Yangon, Myanmar

The capital city of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) is just under three hours’ flight from Singapore. This very exotic destination is relatively undiscovered by Western tourists. The city is filled with temples and pagodas, the most striking of which is the Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar’s version of the Taj Mahal. It is constructed with more than 4,500 diamonds in its structure, including a 72-carat mega-diamond on the top. popular tourist places

As if to compete with the diamond pagoda, the Sule Pagoda was plated with pure gold. The pagoda is joined by Buddhist temples, interesting British colonial architecture and an ever-increasing number of modern skyscrapers. Recommendations for popular Southeast Asian tourist attractions.
